Cherrylion Studios Expansion
Nestled along Atlanta’s famed Beltline, Cherrylion Studio stands as the city’s largest Bronze Sculpture studio, where artistry and craftsmanship converge to create extraordinary sculptures. Founded by renowned bronze sculptor Marty Dawe, Cherrylion has built a reputation for artistic creations, serving public, corporate, and private collectors with pieces that are as unique as the subjects they capture.
Marty Dawe sought a general contracting company that shared his vision and attention to detail, which led him to partner with RIAANS DESIGNS, under the leadership of Riaan Garforth-Venter. Originally from South Africa, Riaan brings a creative approach to building, having hosted his own nationwide DIY TV show for 15 years, guiding and inspiring audiences.
The process of demolishing and expanding Marty’s studio was as meticulous and thoughtful as the sculptures created within its walls. We began the commercial build by erecting a prefabricated steel structure, a critical element in establishing the new creative space.
To ensure the stability of the site, we built a retaining wall to prevent soil erosion and manage the terrain. The delivery of the retaining wall blocks signaled the start of a solid foundation, followed by forming the foundation with lumber, after plumbing and electrical conduits were installed underground.
As the project advanced, we used a telehandler to position heavy metal components, enabling the steel structure to take shape. With the metal siding in place, we chose a vibrant red exterior to mirror the dynamic spirit of the studio.
Inside, the design fosters creativity. Instead of traditional sheetrock, we selected Luan Board for its modern, wood-like aesthetic. Cut into 4×4 sheets and arranged in a checkerboard pattern, the Luan Board adds a distinctive touch to the interior. Long, elevated windows allow natural light to flood the space, creating an inspiring environment for the artists at work.
